p 60: Groups are better at deciding between possible solutions to a problem than they are at coming up with them. Invention may still be an individual enterprise (although as we'll see, invention has an inescapably collective dimension), but selecting among inventions is a collective one.
Culture enables coordination by establishing norms and conventions, possible to create new forms of behavior quickly. Most established norms internalized, sometimes external sanction needed.
