Blogging backlog even though I had a week at home to recover. In Chicago for AWF conference, all about design research. Meeting a lot of interesting people doing jobs I'd like to have at places like Yahoo and small design firms. Kind of wish I had gone to IIT's design school now, but guess my interests have changed from when I originally applied. I never would have considered myself a designer until I found that design is just finding creative ways to solve problems, not just making things look nice. Not to mention I would be thousands of dollars in debt since it's so pricey. Their curriculum seems to have it together between design and business. Though talking to students, I think they are probably as skeptical of IIT's claims as I am of Tech's so maybe "the grass is greener".

Spent a few days at Noelia's since I was too tired Wednesday night to drive back to Laurinburg. She invited me on a camping trip for the weekend, but though I love nature, I hate spending the night outdoors in the rain when I could be at home comfortably reading and curling up in a bed. It was a little scary waking up at 4 am in the dark, but luckily I could get into the car and read with the light on. I think that's cheating, but in any case I went back on Saturday morning. Mom was happy enough and joined her for a tasting/openhouse at a vinyard in Wagram where a few of her friends had invited her.

Several phone interviews during the week as well as follow ups through email for more. Particularly excited about one from NASA which was arranged in a matter of hours so it looks like they're interested. Also had a good experience with a nonprofit-centric company from DC which would be more for an information architect position. Interviewed with director whose picture has a chicken from the IA Summit so Mom kept on asking what the chicken's name was during the interview.
