Back home to see "Thoroughly Modern Millie". Fun with good dancing and singing as well as cheesy but happy ending. Even had singing in Chinese--must be first for musical especially when one of them gets the girl.

Jimbo Wales in class and talk yesterday so got to ask him questions about my Wikipedia research. Apparently the Spanish wikipedia people misrepresented his views which lead to the fork. Wish I had heard more firsthand about that controversy.

Also good discussion after watching video on Siler City and talking abuot the racial factors in the South. Took a lot of notes--guy worried about "Reconquista" and Aztlan. Eric Liu thrown in for historical context though no Asians in Siler City. Sign--"Why can't you help the people in Mexico rather than here". Had to pause and wonder. Especially with girl saying to effect that Mexicans take jobs that noone else wants--same thing Vicente Fox said only Al Sharpton took him to task for that remark, saying blacks should boycott Mexico. Lecture Wed from Latino Studies professor--as Peruvian was surprised to be lumped as Hispanic, in her country "Upper class didn't jive with lower classes", difference entre los educados. Harped on how terms were put down by government which was missing point somehow.

Somewhat related note in Linguistics class--Wolfram said Spanglish has offensive connotations? Wish we could have talked more on that and whether it was true. Mainly focused on language acquisition which affected "Chicano English"

Also conversation from Duke class. Girls talking about getting hair cuts, surprise when they had a dramatic change, trauma when childhood cuts gone wrong. Professor interjected making fun of conversation a few times but started again as several reminisced. Definitely a chick thing...
