At Connette's house. Spent the weekend with her and then today since she was "on-call" this weekend and could only take me back this evening. Fun--she's got such a big house. We watched movies "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" on Saturday and "Amelie" last night. Movies that the other one would probably never watch, really different though both "chick flicks". Liked the Mad Black Woman, misleading advertising made it think that was going to be slapstick, but was about woman's getting through a bad divorce and empowering herself to fall in love again. And her crazy grandmother. Ebert apparently tore it apart because of her with one star, but it seemed like she said out loud what the main character didn't dare. Christianity actually mentioned and climatic scene in church with gospel choir. Connette talked back to the movie, which was my kind of movie watching. Mike nowhere to be seen, up watching his TV.

Forced to go to service with them even though I was exhausted from not sleeping well. It was OK--everyone very friendly and a lot of flipping through the Bible. I did take offense at their potshots at Catholicism. While the comments about pedophilia might be justified and even slavery had limited justification, the accusations about going along with Hitler because of greed were way off base. As far as I know, Quakers were the only religious people that as a group were against slavery. Catholics weren't even in on slavery in the U.S., albeit maybe with the Portuguese and French in Brazil and Haiti. JWs don't even vote, much less speak out against injustice. When I tried to bring this up with Connette, she got mad and insisted that at least they hadn't given blessing to Hitler. I protested and looked up on Wikipedia. Did find encyclical in 1937 condemning Nazism so felt relief. Assume there were other sects that did support him at the time, but Catholicism is always the easy target...A little sad that she's one of the few friends I have with a strong faith in God, but who believes anything outside her framework including my upbringing must be wrong so can't really have talk with her about it.

Afterwards a day of shopping. Connette was on a mission to decorate and find clothes so I got exhausted after a while and asked to get out at Barnes and Nobles since I was tired and was the only place I wanted to go anyway.
