From "Information Architecture, A new Discipline",
user-centered design, must gather info:
what users goals are (What they are trying to achieve)
what users do to achieve those goals
what personal, social, and cultural characteristics the users bring to the task
how users are influenced by their physical environment
how users' previous knowledge and experience influence how they think about their work and the work flow they follow to perform their tasks; and
what users value most that will make an [information product] be a delight for them
Design methods: analysis, conceptual design, design and development, implementation
Usability studies: three stages: problem definition (analyze user needs, define goals, set objectives)
design stage--detailed specification and prototype
potsdesign==direct user research (questionnaires, group discussions, observation, field testing)
