From "Information Architecture, A new Discipline",
user-centered design, must gather info:
  • what users goals are (What they are trying to achieve)
  • what users do to achieve those goals
  • what personal, social, and cultural characteristics the users bring to the task
  • how users are influenced by their physical environment
  • how users' previous knowledge and experience influence how they think about their work and the work flow they follow to perform their tasks; and
  • what users value most that will make an [information product] be a delight for them

Design methods: analysis, conceptual design, design and development, implementation
Usability studies: three stages: problem definition (analyze user needs, define goals, set objectives)
    design stage--detailed specification and prototype
potsdesign==direct user research (questionnaires, group discussions, observation, field testing)
