CNN feature on illegal immigrants. Mention that 40% of immigrants from Mexico have equivalent of 8th grade education--so depressing. Transition from that to H-1 visa situation.
Blah day. Cell phone died yesterday after torrential rain storm, caught without umbrella. Actually bought one from guy at Marta station--offered for $5 which was too much but then lowered to $3 and then ended up giving him $5 for that and a MARTA token. Both ended up happy I guess, though he must have been pretty soaked before long. Also gave energy bar to some guy begging for food on train and he ate it right up while tourist called me kind. All that to go to play, Boston Marriage. Luckily the 2 ushers who signed up never showed up so got to see it for free, but didn't like it a lot. At least it was understandable but not very likable characters and didn't think kept with idea of Boston Marriage. So saved $15 but now dead cell phone which would take $100 to replace so I'll have to go without for a while. Just in time for the dual conferences.
Got to see Bianca, Connette, and Kris over break. Had brunch with Bianca, Connette drove down to Laurinburg for dinner at Mi Casita and met up with Kris in Chapel Hill at a southern food restaurant (tried Catfish and fried green tomatoes for first time, amused response since hadn't tried). Surprised Connette drove down, seemed disillusioned with medicine track since changed practices, but found new position same day, very different from when I switched gigs.
Still grouchy over Chicago crew. One just logged on and logged back off. Probably nothing to do with me, but still have to wonder. Well, have to stop calling since it's clear he's never going to pick up but still have to wonder what happened. Sad. Why can't I just wipe them out of my head?
