How to Raise Your Self-Esteem from Visualization for Change

Practice compassion for yourself and others—understand, accept and forgive yourself.

Acknowledge that everyone including yourself has intrinsic worth as a human being.

Know you always do your best

Handle criticism assertively, don’t take it personally

Know what you want and ask for it. Know that you deserve attention, love, respect, peace, fair compensation for your work, a chance to learn and grow and so on.

Visualize overt, specific behavior

See yourself making small, positive steps each day toward your goal

Include the positive consequences of higher self-esteem—see yourself successful at work, enjoying closer and more satisfying relationships, achieving goals

Include assertive, high self-esteem body language in your visualization: erect posture, leaning forward to people, smiling, close to people, etc

See yourself struggling a bit at first, and then succeeding.

See yourself liking yourself more, not just other people liking you more

Tell yourself “I’m basically OK right now” just as you are.

Think of self-esteem as something you already have, but are out of touch with. See yourself discovering self-esteem like a treasure lost and found again. See dark clouds clearing away to reveal the sun that was always there. Hear beautiful music emerging from static as you tune into your self-love. Feel warmth and softness as you pull on a cashmere sweater you misplaced and have just found again.
