Notes from the news. Saw several articles which I reacted to today. First, an article on CNN which told about U.S. soldiers selling stuff they took from Hussein's palaces on ebay. How tacky can you get? What a bunch of thugs--stealing things that belong to Iraq and profiting off it. So how are they better than the people they drove out again? Such a shame that a handful of thieves or rapists in the military can make the whole of our country look bad when we go abroad.

Another article on Taiwan's president getting shot. Coworker called it a joke because of the fireworks, but apparently people are saying it's true. What drew my attention was that the vp also got shot--Annette Lu. Somehow I get so used to thinking that this is such a progressive country and then I find that other countries are further along than we are in some respects. How long before the U.S. gets a female V.P. or President?

Wednesday night's Daily Show had some news that was bizarre even for the Daily Show. Apparently some news stations were showing segments to explain the new Medicare plan that were actually fake, produced by the administration with no reporting at all. The reporters were played by actors and the administration official was reading his lines from a teleprompter. Jon Stewart didn't know whether to be stunned or honored by this blatant fake news.
