An interesting day with GVU convocation. Bumped into Steve Guynup while walking there. Three lectures in a row--interesting but went on a little too long. Wish I had had more time to mingle with people. Heard good news--classmates got job at Google, getting courted by Microsoft, accepted at Stanford and getting married. Also talked to prospective student who sounded like she wouldn't quite be a match, but steered her towards people who might be good to talk to. For once, felt part of the family. Was grouchy when I filled out HCI student survey, thinking I should have gone to Depaul but then when compared to MIT, more career oriented and probably more flexibility. Saw classes at Emory being offered in Sociolinguistics and Field Methods in Ethnography so that was exciting. Of course, they clash with classes at the same time at Tech so would have to make some tough choices there. A little lull after the rush to finish an article and various library books but should ramp up pretty quickly with case studies due next week.
