Feel like office is cage--computer screen is bad. Today was HCI@GT day. Didn't think I could make it because of job but at last minute decided to bring laptop to show off my web page. Glad I did. Was able to show to a few people who were doing interesting work and were interested in my Japan research. Only about 7 or 8 companies showed up and a lot of people seemed pretty passive in interacting so glad I got the networking in. Happily chatted about my project at the career fair with another pair of companies. Funny how much more relaxed I am when it doesn't matter. Feel hope that I'll have options when I get out.

Spending too much time on AVEN Board this week out of boredom. Told Mike about it after he persisted on asking me questions about love life, but then lately not so sure if it really applies--maybe I am just a wimp. After speeddating went OK, followed up with one date Friday(don't think will repeat again--divorced and has issues) and another who I went first to Cheesecake Factory with (yum), then Rock Bottom, and then a second time that week to Thai Palate. Was friendly, talkable and generous, treating me to dinner. But was a little weirded out by the hug at the end. Maybe that's standard for a date, but why? Just chatted with Jan asking him a lot of questions about it. Interesting.

Saw the "L-word". A little too much sex for my taste and a lot of "uh, whatever" but had interesting parts. Also saw "Sex in the City" a few times which was even more unbelievable. One dating a pop idol, another has a job writing a column for about an hour a week yet has enough money to buy expensive shoes. Whatever. I can totally relate to that--not! "Angel" was cool, but had some major "hey wait-a-minutes". Apparently Cordelia turned out to be a ghost but Spike actually tasted her blood when he bit her. Logic does not apply to this show. "The Apprentice" was good though could easily be cut in half timewise.

Got back on BMC alumnae list so going through a lot of email these days. Mass-delete, but some interesting discussion. Some people insisting that Office Max "Rubber-Band Man" was racist which really had me rolling my eyes. One of the few spots on TV that focuses on a person of color who is not a hoodlum or gangster and it gets called racist because he's wearing dreads and in a service sector(probably the only sector that is growing at this point). Sometimes these white liberals strike me as being more racist with their hypersensitive political correctness. But at least I posted and was backed up by people from my generation.

Also got elected to hall council by unanimous vote since I was only one running. So now I'm social chair and get to have input on activities. Yay!

Went back to Fernbank for Martini's and Imax. Another pain getting there since #2 bus takes forever but met friendly woman on bus who I walked up to museum with. Once I was there, looked for "Christ-the King" singles group who i found, but then ended up talking to group of women who happened to go there, but didn't know that the group was gathering there. One was from Chile so of course started talking in Spanish. One woman was interested in dancing so ended up chatting with her. Lucky enough to get ride with them. Saw "Pulse: a Stomp Odyssey" which was really good. Made me want to be an anthropologist.

Joined yet another online community called Orkut thanks to Jan's invitation. A little more extensive than Friendster.
