Yawn. Second day of work and is a little slow so far, but I can tell it's not for long. The company seems pretty cool so far, very laidback and an exciting market. Yesterday was the quarterly company meeting complete with wine and 5 different kinds of beer at the end. Still recovering from jetlag and all the stress of travel and registration. After sitting in on a lot of class decided to just sign up for one, the management core class and sit in on an international development class and try to keep up with Japanese. Everything's such a mess that still haven't had a chance to get started on work.

This weekend in Chicago for SHPE Conference. Shortest and least effective conference I've been to in a while, but what counted was the people I bumped into. Saw a few familiar people from Lucent, as well as Doris, who I hung out with at the networking event. Played phone tag with a lot of people, but finally ended up eating breakfast with Dorrie, from BMC who it turns out has been in Chicago for 3 yrs and is doing information architecture type stuff as an applied anthropologist. Sat and Sunday got to hang out with Joe, so got to hear a lot of what's new in his life, even with the dating thing. After Thai/Chinese dinner, drove to Matteson to see Adam. Mostly store stuff although also noted he was starting to think about adopting. Convinced him to come to city with us for evening so got to see "Galileo Player" skits (fruit fly skit funniest with one bug looking at Joe through eyes on her behind and Adam noting that masks were inaccurate) and Hothouse flameco pop/salsa. Turns out neither Adam nor Joe were willing to dance so I ended up dancing with other women by themselves on dance floor during lessons as well as with the dance instructor, Lisa La Boriqua who pulled me up on stage. Really cool music--wish I could have danced more. Joe and Adam ended up talking a lot about running a business so glad yet another connection between friends made.

Sunday drove up for Korean movie with Joe to hang out with Hyeseon and her roommate. Turns out her roommate is fluent in Spanish since she spent 25 yrs in Argentina which was a fun surprise. Movie was weird--very confused people who had sex on their minds. Relieved when Hyeseon assured me that Korean relationships were not that way and there was too much sex for her taste as well. We all went out for dinner afterwards and found a Japanese place nearby. Didn't really get to talk much to Hyeseon though found out her hope is still to get married soon, even though supposedly she had broken up with her boyfriend who she seems to still be pinning her hopes on. It made me feel a little guilty hearing gossip behind her back, but I don't really feel like I should be the one to tell her. So she and her roommate took it to the airport where it turns out my flight was 30 minutes before when I thought it was but I managed to make it just in the knick of time.
