Just got back from “Mona Lisa Smile” with Susy and her aunts. OK, definitely much better than “Beyond Borders” but still not convinced. Kirstin Durst’s character was so bitchy and then all of a sudden becomes a nice person, loving Dr. Watson who didn’t seem to teach class at all second semester. Joan seemed like an interesting character but seemed to be ignored after her announcement. Didn’t even apply to other law schools as back up, but I guess point was that that was Katherine’s dream for her, not her own though wouldn't seem that way based on her excitement once she got accepted. Betty seemed to influence her more in that respect way more than Katherine. Weird the way Katherine just threw her boyfriend aside—of course only in movies would he surprise visit and pop engage like that. Her giving up after the harsh editorial seemed bizarre as well and the messge seemed to be that she didn't really know how to live her own life. Assessment of Wellesley as most conservative school in country was rather harsh. Reminded me a lot of Bryn Mawr with the hoop races and May Day dances. Think BMC also went through conservative phase back in the 50’s. Would really be interested in the BMC alumni list reaction.
Afternoon at “post-posada”. Got there “late-on-time” around 12, people still getting there. Mostly revolved around kids, playing in “brinca-brinca”. Exercise in telling them apart. Federico teased, saying I was the last one not to have and that I needed at least 3.
Evening when stopped by Susy's, Carolina, Isabela and a Valverde cousin were playing Barbie and dinosaurs. The T Rex was pushing a shopping cart and Hector played along, saying that he had seen a T Rex at Target the other day with tennis shoes and a sweater in its cart. So the little girl had the T Rex put some tennis shoes in its cart.
Yesterday stopped by Mana’s house and briefly saw Erica and her daughter who barely said hi. Evening went to Beto and Ana Luisa’s house for their 15th wedding anniversary celebration. Off to a slow start, saw “Lizzie McGuire Movie” with kids upstairs (total cheese, but kind of fun). But they invited a trio, guitarras y bass, singing Mexican songs which definitely livened things up. Almost everyone was dancing, and my mom was one of the most lively, declarada la campeona. I was a little down after Bob told me Joe’s mom had died so was it was great to see my own mom so happy and full of life.
