An interesting week for reading--the IBM interview motivated me to read Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping. Goes into details about displays and how to target the shopping experience towards certain groups--kids,seniors,men vs. women. Already showing itself to be a little dated..."Some day there will be a computer hardware company with a highly visible woman at (or very near) the helm, somebody to hold forth on the business page of the Times and on CNBC--kind of like a female Bill Gates(but with a better haircut)." Well now you have Carly at HP, though there definitely haven't been any "feminization" of computers--she's too busy trying to prove she's capable. So instead we have Steve Jobs taking credit for making computers coming in colors other than putty or black (though they seem to have vanished). Still no ergonimically improved keyboard designs--grr...

Also read Geeks this weekend, also pretty dated. For high school grads to be able to get a job practically on the spot in the Chicago tech industry--yep that was the world of 4-5 years ago, not today. His geek club was definitely male.
